The Work

We rescue the books the world stopped printing.

Grimoires, hermetic treatises, tarot keys, forgotten histories, and the government files nobody expected to see again — all long out of copyright, most impossible to find in a form worth keeping. We hunt down the best texts, set them cleanly by hand, and commission an original introduction for each, so the book arrives whole: the strangeness intact, the scholarship restored.

Every title is drawn from the public domain — first editions, private printings, suppressed reports — and read against its sources before a single word is reset.

Each edition opens with an original essay by our house scholar — where the book came from, who feared it, and why it still matters. The text itself we leave alone.

The order & its lantern

Ordo Obscuris is older than its imprint. Before there were books to sell there was an order — a small company bound by a single question: what has been hidden, and why? It keeps to the border between shadow and revelation, and treats that border as a place of work rather than a place of fear.

The publishing house is the order's one visible act — the lantern set in the window. Its purpose is plainly stated: to bring light to the darkness. Not to flood the dark and strip out its mystery, but to carry a single steady flame into a room long left unlit, and to see what was always there.

Tau Magnus founded both and keeps the threshold between them. Founder, author, editor — a reader who has spent a life where occult tradition meets the historical record, and who sets each recovered text back into honest type without softening what it was meant to say. The strangeness stays. The scholarship is restored. Then he gets out of the way.
